walks nature reserve walks island walks coastal walks lake and reservoir walks latest walking routes aberaeron to llanerchaeron 3 miles (5 km) a lovely walk from the ceredigion town of aberaeron to the grade i listed mansion of llanerchaeron. the walk starts in the coastal town of aberaeron, next to the pier. you then pass along the harbour before picking up a trail along the river aeron. the trail branches off the river before passing through woodland and arriving at llanerchaeron. there's some nice trails to follow around the grounds of the attractive georgian villa. features include a working farm, an ornamental lake and walled gardens. on the farm you can see a variety of animals including welsh black cattle, llanwenog sheep, rare welsh pigs, chickens, geese and doves. the walled gardens date from the 18th century and feature kitchen gardens, 200 year old fruit trees, beautiful herbaceous borders and a herb garden. in the woodland areas you can see wild daffodils, wood anemone and bluebells depending on the time of year. also look out for birdlife including nesting herons, goldcrests, redstarts and nuthatches. after exploring the estate you can return to aberaeron on the same path. carnforth canal walk 5 miles (7.3 km) enjoy a stroll along the lancaster canal from carnforth to bolton-le-sands on this easy. along the way there's nice views towards morecambe bay and the mountains of the lake district. the walk starts just to the east of the town centre and train station. you can pick up the canal towpath on kellet road and follow it south west to bolton-le-sands. the large village has an old church with a tower dating from 1500. there's also a number of nice pubs where you can stop for refreshment at what is the halfway point of the walk. after exploring the village the walk follows a mixture of country lanes and public footpaths back to carnforth. this section takes you through the countryside around mount pleasant, where you can enjoy great views to the coast from the elevated position. old wardour castle 3 miles (5.5 km) this circular walk explores the countryside surrounding the 14th century old wardour castle in tisbury, wiltshire. the site is managed by english heritage who provide an audio tour where you can learn about the castle's history. you can also climb the turrets for wonderful views over the surrounding area. start the walk from the castle car park before exploring the ruin and the beautiful landscaped grounds. you can then pick up a section of the wessex ridgeway long distance footpath to take you up to new wardour castle. the palladian style house was built in the 18th century for the arundell family. follow the trail toward wardour where the path curves round through wardour park. you'll pass a series of ponds and a small wooded area near park gate farm. here you pick up the wessex ridgeway again to take you between heron pond and pale park pond before returning to the castle car park. ebernoe common 2 miles (3.4 km) this national nature reserve near petworth has miles of nice footpaths to try. there's ancient woodland, streams, several ponds and lots of wildlife to look out for on the site. this circular walk starts from the car park at the northern end of the common, just off streel's lane and church path. at the south western end of the common you can extend the walk by heading across to colhook common where there are some pretty lakes. in the spring look out for the pretty bluebells in the woodland. on the meadows you can see early purple orchids, cowslips and primroses. it's great for wildlife spotting too. there's lots of different butterflies to see in the glades and birdlife including woodpeckers, whitethroats, blackcaps and turtle doves. reeth 4 miles (6.6 km) explore beautiful swaledale on this riverside circular walk in reeth. there's lovely footpaths to follow along both sides of the river with fantastic views of the surrounding yorkshire dales scenery. highlights on the route include the swing bridge near reeth, some attractive woodland and the lovely, peaceful river banks. back in the village you can enjoy refreshments at one of the nice pubs and visit the
